Madunagala Hot Water Spring is a wonderful spot to unwind and enjoy a unique natural experience. The water is warm and soothing, and it's a great place to visit with family or friends. However, the cleanliness of the changing rooms and washrooms definitely needs improvement. These facilities are basic and not well-maintained, which takes away from the overall experience. With better hygiene and upkeep, this could easily become a top-tier attraction. Still worth a visit if you're in the area — just be prepared.

Madunagala Hot Water Springs lie among vast paddy fields between Sooriyawewa and Ridiyagama, Today this hot water well is one of the most popular destinations for pilgrims to the South. The spring was first recorded by Leonard Woolf, Assistant Government Agent of Hambanthota (1908-11) in his diaries recording the haphazard journey through wild animal-infested jungles and boat rides to reach the hot spring where he had taken samples to be analyzed. The spring was rediscovered again in the early 1960s with the Uda Walawe development project when the areas coming under the Walawe Basin were turned into a vast agricultural area. Embilipitiya was made the primary town of the project where several trunk roads from the main towns in surrounding Embilipitiya were terminated. Sooriyawewa, about 15 km east of Embilipitiya became the central hub of the left bank region of the Uda Walawe reservoir.

There are about 10 hot springs in Sri Lanka, of which Kanniya in Trincomalee is the most popular, whilst the Madunagala Springs near Suriyawewa is the southern most in the island. There are 6 springs filled with water with varying temperatures ranging from 45° to 65° C in the hottest spring which is the one in the centre, and you should exercise great care to avoid being scalded. The naturally heated water is said to contain upto 22 minerals is known for its healing properties. The changing rooms and the bathrooms are rather poorly maintained.
