It's recommended as one of the main tourist attractions in the city but unfortunately is not maintained well enough. There isn't much further to see inside, given as a tourist you will be only allowed to the main yard.
You need to take off your shoes but the yard is dirty with various food scrap/stain and pigeon seeds. We could perfectly leave our shoes outside or just carry it in the bag I had but the guy in front insisted on leaving it there and on the way back took money per shoe!

Leave your shoes outside (in the shade) before entering. I visited at a quiet time but it was great go have a look around. The ticket to go up the tower was R200 so has increased.
