1st of all make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes. there is going to be a lot of walking. This is by far the most beautiful site of the great wall of china. The landscaping is magnificent. There is a lot of activities to be done here. Boat cruise in the beautiful late. But again for one to experience all this must be prepared to walk a lot and climb many stairs. But all the walking its worth it. This is the only lakeside of the Great wall. Its a must see.
A very beautiful and peaceful portion of the Great Wall during the winter period. (Note: it is 2 hours away from Central Beijing) Went on a weekday (Monday) morning in early December and there wasn't a lot of people at all (less than 20 pax) through out. The hike was relatively easy (for someone with medium to active lifestyle). There is also an option to take a boat ride to your around the lake / great wall.
Discovering this lesser-known section of the Great Wall is a true hidden gem for those seeking solitude and unspoiled natural beauty. The absence of crowds allows for an intimate connection with the ancient marvel, offering a serene and undisturbed experience. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, the untouched nature enhances the historical grandeur, creating a sense of awe and tranquility. For those willing to venture off the beaten path, this secluded part of the Great Wall promises a unique and unforgettable encounter with both history and the splendor of the natural world.
A Journey of a Lifetime Our visit to the Great Wall of Huanghuacheng in China was truly a bucket-list experience that exceeded all expectations. We booked a private van and were met by an English-speaking guide at the train station upon our early morning arrival from Shanghai. The drive to the location was delightful, offering scenic views that set the stage for an incredible day. This section of the Great Wall is particularly special for several reasons. It is well-preserved and located near a charming farming village, allowing us to interact with the local people. We had the chance to purchase fresh produce, including berries, eggs, and vegetables, and taste local foods. The Wall is situated along a water dam, providing breathtaking views of the wall against the backdrop of lush green mountains and serene water. We enjoyed various water activities, including paddling boats and canoeing. A highlight was taking a speed boat across the dam to reach a chestnut forest, where we relaxed in a Resthouse and savored grilled chestnuts. Our guide then took us to a nearby restaurant in the woods, where we picked fresh fish from the ponds and had them grilled on-site. The meal was absolutely delicious and perfectly complemented the day’s adventures. This visit to the Great Wall of Huanghuacheng was an unforgettable experience, combining stunning scenery, cultural encounters, and delicious food. It was an adventure of a lifetime that I’ll cherish forever.
Great experience at the great wall of China. It opens relatively late but it's generally quiet. The scenery is nice with the lake that stores water for farming. The restored wall is easy to walk and has a great view. This part opens relatively late at 8:30 in the morning.
