A significant public space steeped in Korean history. Dominated by the majestic statue of King Sejong, it offers a glimpse into the nation's past. This is a popular gathering spot, often hosting cultural events and providing stunning views of Gyeongbokgung Palace. You can stroll through the square, admire the historical monuments, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of Seoul. Its central location makes it easily accessible and a key landmark for Korean heritage and modern city life.

It is great place to visit especially during cherry blossom week. Chilly weather make a difference for the week but it did not stop the crowd. Highly recommend to get your Hanbook in for photo shooting

Whether you’re interested in history, culture, photography, or just a relaxing walk with a view, Gwanghwamun Square offers a deeply meaningful and visually impressive experience in the center of Seoul. It’s more than just a tourist spot - it’s a space where Korea’s past and present come together in harmony.

A great outdoors space - public square - with the backdrop of the Gwanghwamun Gate/Gyeongbokgung Palace &mountains in the background (looking north). There was an event organized the Seoul Outdoor Library - where hundreds of families had lounged/camped out on the square reading books. Very impressed with this initiative to encourage youngsters to read books!! There are big statues of historical Korean leaders gracing thus square - multiple fountains too where kids of all ages can indulge in abandon. One can easily spend the whole day in the neighborhood visiting the historical sites and the many eateries around. A very safe and walkable area. A must visit experience when visiting Seoul!
