I visited the Mermaid Statue on Sunday, just before the end of the year. There were a lot of Malaysian tourists waiting in line to take pictures with the mermaid. There were also many souvenir shops and horses available for rent to take a stroll along the beach. Even though it was crowded, the place still had a warm and charming atmosphere.
The Golden Mermaid Statue is a must-visit landmark in Songkhla! This beautiful bronze statue, located on Samila Beach, was inspired by a Thai folktale about a mermaid who used to sit on the shore and comb her hair. According to the legend, she was frightened away by a fisherman, leaving only her golden comb behind. Today, the statue is a symbol of Songkhla and attracts both locals and tourists alike. The view from the beach is stunning, especially with the waves crashing onto the shore. However, today was extremely windy, making the sea look more dramatic than usual. The strong gusts of wind added an exciting and refreshing touch to the visit, though it was a bit challenging to walk on the sand. If you’re planning to come on a windy day, be prepared for some flying sand and big waves! Overall, this place is perfect for taking photos, enjoying the beach atmosphere, and learning about local Thai folklore. A definite must-see in Songkhla!
Really nice to take a walk to visit the Golden Mermaid ?♀️ in the evening when the sun had set and the weather is more cooling.
First time visiting Songkhla’s Samila Beach, and the iconic mermaid statue did not disappoint! ✨ The atmosphere is so chill, with a refreshing sea breeze and endless waves rolling onto the shore. Tourists from everywhere come to soak in the beauty, and horseback riding along the coastline adds a magical touch. ?☀️ Nothing beats sipping a cool drink under the golden sun, embracing the peaceful seaside energy. Taking in the view, feeling the moment—this is beachside bliss at its finest.
Such a beautiful and identity marker to Songkhla with significant historical reference. Definitely a must visit when in this neighborhood.
