1 Tràng Tiền, Phan Chu Trinh, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội
A good introduction to Vietnam history from prehistoric time to 1990s. Open from morning till 5:30 with a break in between for 1.5hrs for staff lunch break. The modern history museum is well detailed with lots of pictures and captions! Grasping everything in the two museums should take around 4-5hrs if you’re interested in reading/understanding.
So many cool historical artifacts in this place. There’re 2 buildings with different periods of time. There is information about history below some, but mainly for narration you might want to rent a pair of headphones. The architecture of the place is quite nice, and the vibe is chill and quiet.
There are 2 area, (1) one for the era before revolution against the French and American, (2) one for the era for the revolution for the French and american. Number (2) is worth a try. That said, the presentation was not immersive, and not story telling.
Really interesting with lots of original artefacts. I only had time to visit one of the buildings, so if you want to really look at it, leave yourself a few hours. I was quite taken aback by the guillotine - never seen a real one before.
