Ola Hostel is a hidden gem nestled on the quaint Jalan Tukang Besi. From this quiet hostel, you only need to walk minutes to reach the bustling Jonker Street, Christ Church, Museum Belia, bars and restaurants along and near the canal, and the vast majority of tourist attractions. We stayed in a Deluxe Queen Room for an extremely affordable price. The big window in the room looks out to blue sky and red terracotta tile roof, so pleasing to my eyes that they are faintly reminiscent of Tuscany. I enjoy hearing raindrops hitting these tiles, intensifying the coziness of the room. The pillows are surprisingly comfortable; each person has the luxury of choosing between two pillows to sleep on, one (latex) being firmer, the other softer. The sheets are so white and clean that I might as well say they are of Marriott quality. The AC is powerful, supported by a fan installed on the wall opposite the window, which is just perfect. The towels are clean and changed daily. Downstairs I find a common area to sit, read, work, or chat. The restrooms there, hidden behind an artistically appointed wall, are roomy for a hostel, regularly cleaned, and never smelly, equipped with great shower head and hot water. It is Sam who delivers all of these flawless services. He is a friendly guy, always willing to help, invariably making guests feel at home. He remembers my and other guests’ names. Under Sam’s management, this hostel appears to attract wonderful guests, which is an important point for us and, I believe, for anyone who would like to have a pleasant stay. I know we will stay at Ola again for our next visit to Melaka. I recommend it to any travelers without any reservations.

For me it’s the best hostel in the world. It’s very clean, cozy, and comfortable. The location couldn’t be better, it is just perfect. We’ve stayed there 4 times, and we want to return to Malacca mainly because of this wonderful place and its host Sam. I left, but a part of my soul stayed there. I highly recommend it to everyone!

Ola hostel is just one love. Staff: Friendly and helpful! Location: Right in the middle of historical district, 2-3 minutes away from parallel famous Jonker street, Dutch church of 1753 year, river bank with bridges, Chinese and Indian temples, mosque, souvenir shops, café, restaurants, 7-11 shop, ATM, Little India district. My room: My room was narrow, but it had double bunk beds, solid window, air conditioner, ceiling fan, lockers and tiny table with stool. Each bed has own privacy curtain, lamp, socket/plug, cloth hangers and small shelf. Clean and comfy bed with two pillows, blanket, towel, shampoo and two bottles of water have been provided. Outdoor common space has a table with some seating area and small wall jungle, tiny kitchenette and bathroom with hot showers and toilets. It was nice to meet and talk to other travelers from different countries. Free Wi-Fi worked very well in the room and outside in the common area. I can recommend Ola hostel for international community as a comfortable and safe place to stay, especially for women travelers. What would be great: I was dropped off by taxi at the hostel, but couldn’t find it as there was no visible sign anywhere. I walked several times around hostel until somebody local walked me and pointed at the yellow door with tiny barely visible barely noticeable hostel name on it. Big sign with “screaming” acid colors would be helpful to notice the hostel if hostel is not participating in the witness protection program.

Been travelling for 4 months and this is the best hostel/guesthouse we've stayed in. So calm with chill quiet music playing overhead, clean common area with iron, vintage decor and kettle. Shared bathrooms aren't what I'd envisaged they were basically private they just aren't in your room. The bathroom has a toilet and shower so you have full facilities to yourself when in there. Good hairdryers for use and mirrors everywhere. Room was perfect with 2 pillows, AC and a fan, free water, shampoo, slippers, chairs, 2 bedside tables and lamps. Location is perfect in the middle of town 1 street away from jonker walk. As a 1 night stay we just really regret not having longer here and have it on our list to return to.
