We’re all aware of the current US President’s stance towards Muslims, and his policies which appear to be targeted against us. Undoubtedly, many of us have been angered by his actions. Instead of lashing out at him and enacting violence, however, the Muslims in New York chose a peaceful yet effective way of standing against hatred and Islamophobia.

At the start of the blessed month of Ramadan, hundreds of Muslims gathered outside the Trump Tower to demonstrate peacefully.

Prior to breaking their fast, the crowd gathered to pray in congregation. We think it’s particularly heartening to see non-Muslims gathering around them, almost as though they were forming a protective barrier around our Muslim brothers and sisters as they prayed 🤗

When dusk fell, the crowd gathered to share food and drinks – not just among the Muslims but also with the fellow non-Muslims who turned up in support of the demonstration.

It’s truly inspiring to witness how this demonstration not only broke barriers, but also brought people of different faiths closer together☺️

We definitely have to commend the bravery of these Muslim New Yorkers to pray and iftar on a busy New York street!

The demonstration was organized by MPower Change and New York State Immigrant Action Fund. Check out their video of the iftar here!

If there’s one lesson to take away from this (other than being inspired), we would say that no matter who tries to bring us down, we should always uphold the values of peace and love that the Quran has imparted to us – in any, and all circumstances ❤️
