Have Halal Will Travel •  May 23, 2015

If you follow us on Facebook or Instagram, you may already know that we've recently travelled to Japan! And as you all know, the reason why we started Have Halal, Will Travel  is to share halal local food from all over the world, but we're making an exception (with probably more to come) because halal lamb steak right in the heart of Asakusa? We just couldn't resist!

P.S. Sekai Cafe at Asakusa is now halal-certified!

Firstly, the concept of the cafe is awesome! The aim of Sekai Cafe is "to serve anyone including people who have diet limitation because of religion and allergies". Sekai means world in Japanese and the cafe wants people from all over to world to have their meals together, at the same table. The cafe caters to Muslims, Vegetarians, people with allergies and those on an organic food diet.

The ambience of the cafe is really cosy and we were so happy to stop for a meal, especially after a long afternoon in Asakusa, in a Kimono. (On a side note, wearing a Kimono isn't as easy as we thought it would be. It felt like we were wearing a corset ?)

All main courses are at ¥1000 which is really reasonable in our opinion! Here's the full menu:

We highly recommend the Lamb Steak! The meat was lightly seasoned with pepper and salt and the cut was good. Most importantly, the steak was really succulent and tender.? If you're hesitant to have lamb because of the strong lamb taste, this dish would be perfect for you because it's really light. Probably the lightest steak we've ever tasted! The accompanying pita bread was soft, chewy and so yummy that you can eat it on its own. The only downside was that the potatoes were a bit dry.

We couldn't decide on our other main course so we asked the staff for her recommendation - the Grilled Vegetable Pizza! To be honest, we've never had so many types of vegetables on a pizza before. There were tomatoes, zucchini, bell peppers, basil leaves, onions and lotus roots all on top of a tomato-based pizza! The tomatoes were really juicy and sweet but we felt that the tomato-based sauce could be a bit stronger. We were given a choice of whether we wanted cheese and of course, we never say no to cheese! The homemade pizza bread was really good too :) Although we prefer meat over veggies anyday, we would make an exception for this - we just simply love this dish!

In case you're wondering why we're drinking out of a fruit, we decided to give their Cajyutta drink a try - 100% freshly squeezed grapefruit. It's a little sour but we definitely received a huge dose of Vitamin A and C!

Apparently, this amazing orange machine is the reason why we're able to drink the juice out of the grapefruit with such a small opening!

The other drink we had was Royal Milk Tea and we opted for soymilk. It was really good too! The next time we visit, we're definitely going to try the smoothie of the day!

If you're looking for instant noodles, you'll find halal Shin Ramyeon and Miso Ramen at Sekai Cafe too :)
