Nestled in the heart of Kampong Gelam Singapore, Harummanis Restaurant is a modern, casual eatery that celebrates Malay cuisine with a warm dose of hospitality. The 40-seater restaurant is the brainchild of Dubai-based Singaporean chef Akmal Anuar, making it his first venture on home soil after launching eight acclaimed concepts in the UAE and New York, including the Michelin-starred 11 Woodfire in Dubai.

For Chef Akmal, Harummanis Sultan Gate is a heartfelt homage to his family. Named after his parents’ 32-year-old nasi padang stall in Teck Whye, the restaurant is a testament to his deep-rooted commitment to preserving the family legacy, despite initial hesitations from his parents.

The cosy yet elegant space, adorned with warm wooden floors, earthy tones, and a vibrant greenery wall, provides the perfect backdrop for a celebration of food and family. A striking oil painting depicting Harummanis’ signature dishes adds a bold touch of personality to the decor.

The menu at Harummanis is a culinary journey that fuses traditional Malay flavours with global inspirations. Highlights include the Red Snapper Asam Pedas—a tangy, spicy chilli broth enriched with daun kesum, fried okra, and shallots. The Lamb Shank (S$47), a creative union of Malay curry and Middle Eastern Majboos, delights with its bold flavours. Don’t miss the Ayam Masak Putih (S$28), where grilled chicken, charred corn, and coconut milk are elevated with cekur and dried chilli.

Serving the Kampong Glam community with heart and heritage, Harummanis Restaurant promises a dining experience that’s as comforting as it is refined. Perfect for family gatherings or a casual meal with friends, this gem is not to be missed.
