189 Missenden Rd, Newtown NSW 2042, Australia
Have visited Uncle Joe's in Newtown for a few times now. And they don't disappoint. They have a decent menu that has many Malaysian cuisine favourites. You can go simple and have a variety of noodles or rice dishes or order dishes accompanied with plain or flavoured rice. The flavours are strong, tasty and authentic without being over complicated. The service is also friendly, approachable and attentive. It's always an indication when you can see local Malaysians visit this place. We also recommend trying the banana fritters for those who have a sweet tooth.
The food and atmosphere were fantastic! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, and the portion sizes were generous. The crispy crab and shrimp spring roll is a definite must-try!
The ambiance and atmosphere of this restaurant is pretty cute and chill. The menu serves the popular and staple Malay food like Laksa, hainan chicken, roti canai and more. Personally I think a lot of food was lacking a bit of flavour. The soft shell crab curry had a bit of raw seafood smell and taste to it. And the omelette was bit burnt on the other side. But overall a good experience.
