294 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby, Auckland 1011, New Zealand
Turkish cafe is one of those places you can always trust to do a good job with food. Haven't been for a while so decided to go over the long weekend. Was a bit skeptical when say only one person was managing the whole cafe including service as well as cooking. Ordered the Chicken Shawarma Kebab which came pretty quickly and was really a delicious meal with chicken, hummus, rice and salad.
We are genuinely excited to see that the Turkish Cafe has re-opened, just up the road from their previous building. While the owner has some work to do in relation to seating and ambience, I'm just so pleased to see the cafe up and running again. Last night's meal was delicious, promptly delivered and generous in terms of portion size. We have enjoyed consistently excellent food at very reasonable prices at the Turkish Cafe. It is one of our favorite options if eating out.
This place has recently become a take out spot and moved location just slightly. It used to be a sit down restaurant and was a Ponsonby favourite for over 20 years! ?? The menu hasn’t changed though - the falafel is really good ? … crispy and crunchy on the outside yet moist and flavourful inside. The tabbouleh is also delicious ? Everything is fresh and lovingly made from scratch (with the exception of the flatbread itself). The atmosphere is relaxed and the same guy still makes the food - he’s a gem. There are still a few seats but it’s not a dine in atmosphere anymore. You can still get great flavours for a decent price.
Popped in for Turkish coffee and Apple Tea - a staple in Türkiye - on a wet afternoon in Auckland. I don’t think you go there for the atmosphere, but for the friendly service an authentic flavours. It was a haven at 4.00pm on a wet Friday!
