Gonpachi Nishi-Azabu is an iconic Japanese izakaya restaurant in Tokyo, located at 1-13-11 Nishi-Azabu, Minato-ku. It’s perhaps best known internationally for inspiring the “Crazy 88” scene in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill. The interior feels like stepping into old Edo: lots of warm wood, lanterns, open kitchens, and theatrical touches like chefs working over binchotan charcoal grills. The menu is broad — yakitori, tempura, fresh soba noodles, sashimi, and more — with a lively atmosphere that makes it great for groups or special nights out. They also offer a “Muslim-friendly” menu, featuring halal-certified meats and separate utensils, even if it isn’t fully halal-certified throughout.
