Vegetarian restaurant inside the Nan Lian gardens. It is rather large and probably seats at least 100 people inside. No outside seating. Naturally many good options for the vegan in the family. We were especially fond of the tasty Singapore rice noodles dish and the sauteed green beans dish. The service was very prompt and friendly. The only drawback is that the interior has very bright cold lights and is not cozy at all. Too bad since the food is so nice. It would be great if they could lower the lights, add some plants and some color.

We came here as a group for lunch after our visit to the Chi Lin Nunnery. The place is very nice and well maintained. Clean and nice. The service was great and the staffs were very pleasant, only language was a barrier, but we still did not face much trouble. We got a big round table on 2nd floor in 5 minutes of waiting. Food was something different compared to what we saw everywhere else in Hong Kong, traditional Bhudhist cuisine you can say, some of the dishes were not good, but overall this was a different experience. Noodles, soup, starters and drinks were all nice.

As practicing Buddhists, we observe a tradition of chanting and practicing ten vegetarian days each month according to the Chinese Lunar calendar. On one of these special days, we decided to visit the beautiful Chi Lin Nunnery and enjoy a meal at the Chi Lin Vegetarian restaurant, conveniently located in the park across from the temple. We made a reservation in advance, as our previous visit taught us that the restaurant can fill up quickly without one.

With high expectations for our dining experience, we were seated on the second floor and ordered several of our favorite dishes. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations. While the tofu skin wraps were delightful and the standout dish of our meal, the rest of the selections fell short. The fried noodles were bland and lacked the depth of flavor we anticipated, and the carrot cakes were disappointingly dry and unappetizing.

It genuinely surprised us that a restaurant in Hong Kong—known for its vibrant culinary scene—could not deliver on these standard dishes. It’s disheartening to see such potential go unfulfilled, especially when we had such high hopes based on our previous experiences.

While we will certainly return to the temple for special occasions, we won’t be revisiting Chi Lin Vegetarian for a meal. We hope that perhaps with time, the restaurant will improve its offerings, but for now, we will seek other vegetarian options that better cater to our tastes.

We arrived with no reservations just prior to opening and were able to get a table for two. The dining room did fill up quickly, however, so maybe luck was on our side.

The service was very good as was the food. I liked the fact that they are 100% vegetarian (being in the same complex as a Buddhist temple it makes sense).

We had the enoki & vegetable dumplings, two bowls of wonton soup, fried noodles, fresh kiwi sodas, and we were quite full. It was a nice meal.

The room looks nice, maybe a little bit dated, and has a waterfall outside the windows to add to the ambiance.

Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience.

The food was terrific, and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

Prices were quite fair for the location and quality.

My one suggestion is that they dim the lights. I wore my sunglasses. There's a beautiful waterfall and gardens outside, but you can see nothing because of the bright blaring lights inside.

The place is very well designed; it just needs better lighting for ambiance.
