Had a great meal here last year! I’m not vegan, butter a couple of people here who were. Everything was extremely delicious and flavorful. If you didn’t know this was a vegan restaurant, you wouldn’t know you weren’t eating meat. I still think about the pepper soup and steamed “cod” fillet.
Excellent vegan food and very convenient (order via qr, central location, open every day until very late, full English menu). Mostly fried dishes, some of them are nice and some are incredibly creative and addictively delicious. I especially liked the shrimp balls (goes great with fried rice), the cod fillet and of course the stinky tofu (loved the smell! More like aromatic than really stinky). Really recommended.
During our recent trip to Taipei, we stumbled upon what we thought was a fantastic vegetarian spot for lunch, but after trying Chao, we knew we had found a true gem! We are thrilled to rank Chao as one of our top choices for vegetarian dining. The food was simply divine! It beautifully captures the essence of local cuisine while being entirely plant-based—how amazing is that? The atmosphere was vibrant, with a diverse crowd that reflected an international appeal. The staff were not only friendly but also welcoming; they even encouraged us to help ourselves to the selection of alcohol from the fridge, which added a fun, communal vibe to our experience. One standout feature was the user-friendly ordering app. It allowed us to customize our meals according to our dietary preferences, whether vegetarian, vegan, or egg-free, making it easy for everyone to find something delicious. If there’s any reason to return to Taipei, it would definitely be to explore more of the incredible vegetarian restaurants like Chao. My personal favorites included the stinky tofu, which was flavorful, and the Hakka stir-fried dish that was bursting with taste. The herbal duck soup was also a highlight, rich in flavor and incredibly satisfying. Overall, Chao exceeded our expectations, and I can't recommend it enough!
A bit pricey for 熱炒 given the portions, but it’s a great attempt at modernizing this cuisine and providing vegan stir-fry for many classic beloved dishes!
A vegan restaurant serving traditional Taiwanese dishes. If you are like me who is allergic to egg and dairy, you can eat at this restaurant without worry. Staff is nice, food comes out quick. The restaurant is usually quite busy and a little loud, but since I live near by, I typically get dishes to go. Everything I have tried at the restaurant or take out has been delicious and tastes like the real thing. Really can’t tell it is a vegan restaurant at all. Highly recommend.
