My Version of Chinese Hambabao
I dont know what you called this dish but I saw some Chinese friends eating them while I growing up so I thought of creating my halal version of Chinese Hambabao.
Everyone has sambal tumis tucked in their fridge. So throw in some soya sauce, give it a taste and viola!!! It is so simple and easy to make yet packed with flavour which I love.
I hope everyone can give this a try and let me know what you think.
My recipe for Chinese Hambabo:
- 2-3 tbsp sambal tumis (depends on your preferred spicy level)
- 2-3 tbsp thick dark soya sauce
- 2 tbsp ABC kicap manis
- 1 tsp light soya sauce (do adjust according to your prefered seasoning)
- 2 cloves garlic (chopped finely)
- Oil (enough to stir fry)
- 500g minced beef or chicken
- 2 tbsp ready-made cooked relish (this is optional. Just to give a little crunchy texture)
- 1-2 cucumber (remove the centre seeds, sliced thinly)
- 1 pkt lotus leaf bun - steamed
Stir fry chopped garlic in hot oil until golden brown. Add minced meat and stir until brown.
Once the meat is browned, add sambal tumis (and relish)
Add all the soya sauce. Mix well until oil is separated from the meat.
Salt and pepper to taste if required. Do remember that relish and sambal tumis already has seasoning. So you may not need to add any more seasoning.
Assemble the dish and serve hot. Enjoy!!
