Have Halal Will Travel •  Aug 06, 2015

If you’re in Singapore for the month of August, you’re in for a huge treat because the Penang St. Buffet’s Crab Madness Buffet, the first ever halal crab buffet in Singapore, is in town! It’s the perfect opportunity to try out one of Singapore’s signature dish prepared in 12 different cooking styles.

Just in case you get a little overwhelmed by the variety, here’s our top 5 picks from the buffet! Bring on the crab madness!

Penang Chilli Crab

What’s a trip to Singapore without trying chilli crab? Although the Penang Chilli Crab differs slightly from the usual in Singapore, with a sweeter taste to it, it's nothing short of delicious! Get a few piping hot fried mantous (fried buns), pile on the chilli sauce and you’ll understand why we’re raving about this dish. (We might have eaten one too many mantous, it's really super good!)

Man-Tou

Salted Egg Crab

It’s safe to say that the salted egg craze has been in Singapore for the longest time and even crabs are not spared! The salted egg sauce was very rich and goes extremely well with the tender crabmeat. Needless to say, we went back for seconds and even thirds!

Mongolian Snow Crab

If you’ve never tried snow crabs, you should definitely give this dish a try. The snow crab is slightly different from the other types of crabs in the other dishes (mud crab, flower crab) as it's sweeter. Go for the ‘legs’ as the meat is easier to extract and also more succulent. The buttery sauce with a tinge of pepper adds an additional flavour to the sweet crab meat!

Crab Bee Hoon

This seemingly normal dish may be buried in the sea of crabs, but trust us when we say that this is a dish worth trying. A steaming hot bowl of sweet crab broth with thick vermicelli noodles and succulent crab meat is the perfect dish to start off your meal!

#HHWT Tip: While everyone is rushing to get their first serving of crab, head straight for the crab bee hoon and get yourself a bowl before you join in the queue for the crabs. Don't worry about the supply, as they refill the crabs pretty often.

Butter Crab

Chocked full of buttery goodness, the butter crab is also one of our favourites in the buffet. Just imagine the sweet crab meat with rich buttery sauce, without overwhelming the taste of the crab meat. Simple but oh so delicious!

Bonus:

There's always room for dessert and this is your perfect chance to try one of the popular dessert dishes in Singapore - durian chendol!
