Recently, the Singapore government announced that it's allowing the reopening of 13 attractions from 1 July 2020. Besides major attractions like Universal Studios Singapore, Singapore Zoo and Jurong Bird Park, one of the attractions allowed to resume operations is Gardens by the Bay's Flower Dome!

For Singaporean residents, it's great news to hear we can visit these beloved attractions again, but it's important to take note of the new guidelines in place to help ensure a safe and smooth visit for everyone. You may also be wondering, given that Gardens by the Bay is a large attraction, whether other sections of the gardens will be open and what it'll be like when you visit. Here's what you need to know.

1. Gardens by the Bay will be reopening the Flower Dome for Friends of the Garden members first

Gardens by the Bay will be resuming operations of the Flower Dome from 1 July 2020, however, it will be open to Friends of the Garden (their membership programme) first until 10 July 2020, before being opened to the general public from 11 July 2020, with tickets available for sale starting 7 July 2020. Operating hours will be from 9am to 8pm daily.

2. What about other attractions in the Gardens by the Bay?

Currently, Gardens by the Bay's Outdoor Gardens are already accessible to the public from 5am to 2am. In addition to the Flower Dome, the Far East Organization's Children's Garden will also be open to the public from 1 July 2020 onwards from 9am to 8pm daily. The rest of the Gardens by the Bay (including the Cloud Forest, Supertree Observatory, Floral Fantasy and OCBC Skyway will remain closed until further notice.

3. Can I become a Friends of the Garden member now?

Thinking of becoming a member now to be able to head to the Flower Dome as soon as it reopens? New membership sign-ups or renewals are currently available only on the Gardens By The Bay app. Memberships cost SGD68 per adult or SGD34 per child (3 - 12 years old) are valid for 1 year. There are also Family membership packages starting from SGD180.

Do note that existing members with a valid membership as of 3 Apr 2020 would have received a complimentary 6-month (180-day) membership extension as a token of thanks for their support during this period ?

4. Time slots are now required for all visitors and tickets must be purchased in advance

To ensure safe distancing, all visitors are required to have a designated time slot for their visit to the Flower Dome. For Friends of the Gardens members, you can pre-book a time slot to visit only through the Gardens by the Bay Mobile App from 29 June 2020.

For the general public, purchases of timed-entry tickets will be available from 7 July 2020, either through the Gardens by the Bay Mobile App or on their website. Purchases through the app are encouraged for a more seamless and contactless visit - Gardens by the Bay is offering a discount of $1 off each ticket plus 10% off selected merchandise and 50% off bottled drinks from Arrival Gift Shop when you purchase tickets through the app. Ticket prices for one conservatory are currently listed on the website at SGD12 per adult and SGD8 per child/senior (we will update if this changes!). Entrance to the Outdoor Gardens and Children's Garden is free of charge.

The physical ticket counters at Garden by the Bay will be closed, therefore be sure to buy your tickets online in advance of your visit. Do be punctual and arrive within your allocated time slot, as if you don't you may have to wait for the next available time slot!

5. Make sure to have the SingPass Mobile App or Gardens by the Bay Mobile app ready in your phone

Visitors to the Flower Dome are required to check-in via the SafeEntry  - visitors can scan the SafeEntry QR Code at the attraction entrance or activate it via the Gardens by the Bay Mobile App. You should also have your tickets or Friends of the Garden membership e-card (for members) ready to scan before entering. There will also be temperature screenings prior to entry.

6. Guests must not exceed 5 people in a group and wear masks

To help ensure social distancing, visitors are required to comply with the following:

  • Group size should not exceed 5 people.
  • Each visitor/group must maintain at least a 1-metre distance from other groups.
  • A mask must be worn at all times, except when eating and drinking and also when performing a strenuous activity such as jogging, cycling in the outdoor gardens.

To help with this process in the Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay have put in place measures including floor markers to guide people to maintain a safe distance, one-directional flow of visitors and no re-entry allowed after exiting the dome.

7. Will any of Gardens by the Bay's halal restaurants and other amenities be open?

In terms of food options, the Texas Chicken outlet (which is halal certified) located in the Supertree Food Hall will be open from 1 July 2020 (opening hours from 11am to 7pm). In addition, the Makan by the Bay stall at Satay by the Bay has reopened since 20 June (opening hours from 10.30am - 10pm). To note, the McDonald's outlet at Gardens by the Bay remains closed until further notice.

In terms of other amenities, car parks, the Arrival gift shop, shuttle service and wheelchair and stroller rental will be available from 1 July 2020 onwards. Other services and amenities (including the information counter, nursing rooms, ATMs, locker rentals and audio headsets) will not be available for the moment.

And there you have it! Everything you need to know if you're planning to visit this much-loved attraction soon for a breath of fresh air and a (much-needed) change of setting during the weekend. While we patiently wait for attractions to reopen and get into the new normal swing, it's heartening that the process will be starting with the reopening of this first group of attractions! With new procedures and guidelines in place, we'll be able to enjoy Gardens by the Bay and other attractions safely once more.
