Use sites like Google Flights, Skyscanner and more to find the cheapest dates to fly

There are many search engines out there, such as Google FlightsSkyscanner and more which help you choose the cheapest destination and dates to fly.  Moreover, these search engines offer open-ended searches based on criteria other than the destination; for instance, you may want to search for flights within a range of times and a budget with no destination in mind. You will then be offered various destinations based on your options!  Do note, though, that when you are searching for a roundtrip flight, search engines by default show you return options from the same airline, even though there may be a cheaper flight offered by a different airline, so make sure you do your full research before making your payment ?

Book your trip by the end of October

Vacation times and holidays can be hard to plan ASAP, but try to get your tickets booked before October ends. November and December are some of the most popular travel periods for obvious reasons - kids are on a school break, families are travelling out to check out winter destinations, and many will finish their annual leaves in these periods. Moreover, with international travel predicted to be returning to pre-pandemic levels this year, you can expect higher demand for flights to popular destinations such as South Korea, London and more - so be prepared for prices to jack up, even more, this end-of-year holiday season! ?

Book flights in the middle of the week

If you haven't heard of this trick, now you do - book your flight from Tuesday to the end of Wednesday. According to research by Skyscanner, prices dip in the middle of the week since most airlines launch their discounts on Monday nights, so you can pick the best prices on Tuesday mornings. But note that flight prices during the holiday season will get more expensive the longer you wait, regardless of which day of the week you buy them, so still buy early! ?

Consider flying during off-peak periods

If you're looking to save, you should note a couple of off-peak periods.  Firstly, flights that take off and land on weekends, or Mondays and Fridays, cost more, so aim to fly in the middle of the week, i.e. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. You can also check out flights in the early morning, midday, late-night or, best of all, a red-eye overnight for extra savings. Red-eye flights are especially best for transcontinental or international flights ?

You can also consider flying off-season or during the public holidays. However, take note of other factors that may affect your destination, such as weather and local holidays. Sometimes, it might be worth paying a little more to enjoy your long-awaited vacation fully! ?

Book a refundable ticket if possible

While travel may be back, the pandemic has shown that we should always stay prepared in any circumstances life suddenly throws up. No matter when you book, try to book a refundable or at least exchangeable option - if something better pops up later you can make the switch. Make sure to read the refund policies of the airline you choose! ?

Book a flight ASAP - within your budget

The best way to get good prices is to immediately book a flight once you're more or less confirmed with your travel plans! Given how unpredictable travel prices are with COVID and inflation, too much hesitation might mess up your plans ?
