I love me a good English-style afternoon tea (or any type of teatime spread, really!). Warm scones with cream and jam? Yes, please. Little sandwiches and pots of hot tea? Say no more, I'm there!

My deep-seeded love for an indulgent teatime was duly-noted by my husband (then boyfriend), who decided to surprise me for my birthday one year by making reservations for us for the high tea at the The Majestic Hotel.

Now, you're probably already aware of the high-tea at The Majestic, particularly at the the Orchid Conservatory, where you can dine while surrounded by rows of beautifully-arranged orchids bathed in natural light.

While no-doubt very IG-worthy, at about RM120 per person, it's also much pricier than dining at at the hotel's Tea Lounge (about RM70 per person).

BUT! May I propose going for the third option, which is The Drawing Room - this is a smaller room located across from the Orchid Conservatory. It's a lot quieter than the bustling Tea Lounge, and you get to enjoy your tea on plush settees, surrounded by draperies, bookshelves and paintings that make you feel like you're in some English manor. It's pricier than the lounge (at RM90 per person), but for an extra special, once-a-year occasion, I think it's totally worth it!

The high-tea spread is served in these heavy glass and steel tiered servers, and on it you'll find all sorts of goodies. Scones are a staple, though other treats you might get can differ depending on when you visit, from little cakes and tarts to profiteroles, buns and puddings. Each tiered tray is meant for 2 people to share, and you'll also get a separate box filled with warm mini pastries. To top it all off, you get a pot of hot tea, served on a burner to keep it hot. Delicate chinaware and serving utensils complete the look ?

It's the perfect place to languidly enjoy cup after cup of tea while you tuck into all the yummy finger food  and catch-up with your company. As someone who's had many a disappointing scone, I'm glad to report the ones at The Majestic are excellent, serve with clotted cream and jam. I found the service to also be really attentive while discreet (as seen below haha).

All in all, I think it's a pretty fantastic way to splurge for a special occasion. I enjoyed it so much I had it again for my birthday (in The Drawing Room again!) the next year, and I'm always open to celebrating future birthdays there too ?
