Sun, sand and beach - ah, doesn't that sound like the ultimate bliss? I recently stayed at the newly-renovated DoubleTree By Hilton Damai Laut Resort with my family and it was one of the best beach getaways I've had! Read on to read my review.

The resort is located near Pangkor, so it was about a 2-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. The drive was pleasant and there are plenty of restaurants and food stalls that you can stop by for a bite to eat. On your way back, do look out for the drive-through coconut shake stall!

The room

We arrived at a sprawling resort overlooking the ocean. I loved how the reception area is open so you can enjoy the fresh ocean breeze. As Hilton's tradition, we were welcome with still-warm chocolate chip cookies that are super yummy! Once check-in is done, we were brought to our room where we'll be staying for the next two nights.

We had the Executive Family Room with Seaview and it did not disappoint. The one-bedroom opens up to a spacious living area where you can enjoy the L-shaped couch while watching the TV. The bedroom is equipped with a Hilton-standard bed and bedding, which makes snoozing a delight! The room is also spacious enough for a baby cot. Also, the best part is - wait for it- it has two huge bathrooms! Now you can have separate bathrooms for you and your kids. In my case, my husband has his own!

The activities

Now, for the activities here. This resort is perfect if you have kids! The theme park-style swimming pool would certainly delight kids of all ages. You have a wading pool, a pool with two huge slides and even a big pool for the adults. My kid had a blast at the wading pool with the smaller slides!

If you're tired of the pool, head over to the Kids' Club! Though do be warned that this might excite your little ones the age of 5 years and below. There are a few play areas: a kitchen play area, a drawing booth, a grocery shop booth and this might be for the older kids - a Play Station area! There's also a mini cinema playing kids' shows. For the older and more adventurous souls, you can try water sports activities and even ATV rides!

The food

As for the food, you can never go wrong with Hilton's Makan Kitchen! The breakfast buffet has a myriad of options that would certainly keep you full! The only downside is the flies - there are so many of them that it makes the dining experience a little bit uncomfortable. So I'd suggest you choose a table away from the doors. But, don't worry as the hotel, tries their best to keep flies away including placing a little fan on the table that helps keep flies away.

Another dining option here is the Hot Pot restaurant where you can enjoy a buffet-style steamboat. Perfect after spending the day in the sun! The seafood is fresh as it's direct farm to table, which I really enjoyed!

Overall, it was a nice short getaway and the resort is more than enough to keep you and your little ones entertained!
