1. Port Dickson (1.5 hours from KL)

Port Dickson is an all-time favourite among KL-lites for being easily accessible where you can enjoy the beach. There are a few beaches that you can enjoy. We highly recommend the Blue Lagoon if you want to get away from the crowd or the Teluk Kemang beach if you want to do water activities. Be sure to make time to hike up to the famous Cape Rachodo Lighthouse, it’s perfect for bird watching! There are plenty of family-friendly activities in Port Dickson too, such as the Port Dickson Ostrich Farm and the Army Museum.

2. Kuala Kubu Bharu (1 hour from KL)

Less than an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Kubu Bharu is perfect if you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The laid-back town has the perfect dose of nature — waterfalls, rivers, hiking trails and even a stargazing spot! Take a refreshing dip in Chilling Waterfall, hike up Bukit Kutu and stargaze at the Sungai Selangor Dam. If you’re looking for a bite to eat, pop by the Teng Wun Bakery (it’s Muslim-friendly!) for some kaya puffs and pastries, and cool down with an ice-cold bowl of cendol from Cendol Pak Samat!

3. Tadom Hill Resort (1 hour from KL)

Tadom Hill Resort is the perfect place to go on a day trip with a group of friends. Not only is their day pass affordable, but there’s also just so much to do there! You can take a leisurely swim in the lake, try out their Tarzan swing, or attempt to cross the lake on a bamboo raft! Have fun with basketball and volleyball in the sand. Kids can have a go at running around their bamboo playground with an obstacle course too — it’s the ultimate family destination! If you’re feeling extra adventurous, for a little extra cash, you can also go on their flying fox or ride the ATV! Did we mention that they have archery? Head there for a full day of adventurous fun!

4. Sekinchan (1.5 hours from KL)

Sekinchan is the ultimate day trip from Kuala Lumpur! From paddy fields to fishing villages to the beach, you can find everything here! Dine in the middle of the paddy fields at Ninja Private Kitchen (Muslim-friendly!), take part in water activities at Redang Sekinchan Beach and take a trip to the fishing village to witness firsthand how the residents of Sekinchan Fishing Port live their lives.

5. Kuala Selangor (1 hour from KL)

Usually visited alongside a trip to Sekinchan, Kuala Selangor is known for a couple of iconic sights —- a hill that serves as a home to cheeky silvered leaf monkeys, a river that's home to gentle fireflies that twinkle in the dark after nightfall, and many other charming historical landmarks. Kuala Selangor will delight history buffs and nature lovers. For an unforgettable day trip, start off your day at the historical Melawati Hill and catch a glimpse of some century-old landmarks, go on a nature walk through the serene Kuala Selangor Nature Park, have a seafood dinner, and cruise through the Sungai Selangor. Be sure to check out Sky Mirror, where you can pose for photos on the reflective surface!

6. Janda Baik (45 minutes from KL)

Janda Baik has a lot more to offer as a day trip from Kuala Lumpur. Only a 45-minute drive from the city centre, the location is surrounded by rainforest — still untouched by modern development. There are various waterfalls and picnic areas where you can soak up the fresh air of the hill. We suggest going early to avoid crowds and traffic. Enjoy a breakfast picnic and have a stream or jungle patch on your own. Bliss!

7. Pulau Ketam (1.5 hours from KL)

Go back in time in Pulau Ketam (a.k.a Crab Island). The idyllic fishing village promises a refreshing day away from the city. You’ll need to board a ferry to reach the island, which promises a fun and adventurous day out for the kiddos! Once you step foot on this laid-back island, it’s easy to get around by foot or by bicycle. Be sure to check out the stilt houses, the collection of Chinese temples and end your day with a seafood feast. You can get anything from chilli crab to steamed fish, fried sotong, to fresh shellfish at the restaurants here.

8. Tanjung Sepat (1.5 hours from KL)

The best thing about Tanjung Sepat is that you can enjoy some freshly grown fruits and vegetables while strolling along the beach. How serene is this? Make sure to catch lilac sunsets along the pier, walk hand-in-hand with your partner at the Lover’s Bridge and bring home delicious dragon fruits from Multi-Rich Pitaya Dragon Fruit Farm!
