McDonald’s Singapore has always thrilled us with their new creations. From the Nasi Lemak Burger to the Ha Ha Cheong Gai Burger, I guess you could say that they’ve tried it all 😂 And it’s no surprise that they’ve done it again!
Yes, McDonald’s has just launched its latest burger – the all-new Red Hot Spicy Peppers Burger, which is available at all outlets starting today (November 1, 2018). According to McDonald’s, this burger brings a whole new level of spicy factor and check this out – it’s touted to be even spicier than the McSpicy® 😱 Well, the HHWT team tried the burger and we’re going to answer the question that’s on everyone’s mind: Is it really spicier than the McSpicy®?
First, let’s talk about what’s in the burger – there’s juicy and peppery chicken patty with spicy tomato mayo, tomato jalapeno relish and cheddar cheese, all sandwiched between two semolina buns. When we first got the burger, we thought that it looked really harmless but then again, the McSpicy® doesn’t look like it will burn you too 😅 What’s interesting though, is that the box indicated the spice level of 3.5 over 5 so that made us really geared up to try the burger!
When we first bit into the burger, we couldn’t really feel any spice, so we thought maybe it’s the kind of spice that takes a while to fire up. But then as we ate more of it, we came to a conclusion that the patty itself wasn’t spicy and we could only feel it when we started eating it with the spicy tomato mayo. Then again, it couldn’t beat the heat of the McSpicy®. It was an interesting kind of spice as it was more peppery (think Mexican food) than fiery, unlike the McSpicy®.
Overall, we didn’t think the burger was anywhere near 3.5 on the spice scale. Even the person with the lowest tolerance for spice in our team could handle it. We just wished McDonald’s had used the McSpicy® patty and slather it with the spicy tomato mayo instead. That would have been the bomb!😅
But that said, the Red Hot Spicy Peppers Burger is still worth a try! We really loved the combination of the chicken patty, spicy tomato mayo and cheddar cheese. With a good mix of sour, sweet and a tinge of spice, it’d do the trick if you’re looking for a slight kick for your taste buds. What’s more, if you’re a fan of breast meat (like I am), you’d thoroughly enjoy savouring the patty. Get it a la carte at $6.25 or with an Extra Value Meal starting from $8.
