Hari Raya is just around the corner and we are definitely excited for all the food, gatherings and fun we’re going to have! Bring on the lemang, rendangs, and raya cookies 😋
But before we start our celebrations, there are plenty of preparations that need to be done. From finding the right raya outfit, cleaning and redecorating the house, and making sure we have enough food and utensils for our guests – it’s plenty to do! Some of us might have started on our raya duties, but for the rest of us who are lagging behind, here are a few places to get you started with your raya shopping spree 😉
1. Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman

Also known as Jalan TAR, this road was the main shopping area in Kuala Lumpur before modern shopping complexes were developed 😊 But even so, the heritage road flanked with pre-war buildings still remains as a popular shopping area, especially during the festive season! Shopping along Jalan TAR doesn’t only get you the best-priced materials and goods for your Raya celebrations, but it’ll also bring a sense of nostalgia to many. Shopping at Jalan TAR is a cultural experience that goes back several decades! For those of us whose family lived in Kuala Lumpur throughout the years, it’ll bring back many memories of how our mothers or grandmothers used to shop for our Raya outfits 🙂
Explore shops along the roads and narrow alleys and find a fantastic range of textiles, Muslimah wears, clothing, accessories, carpets, silverware and more. Everything you need to refresh your outfits and home to bring in the festive season!
Note that every Saturday between 5pm – 10pm, Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman is closed and hosts a night market instead so your shopping options doubles up with more clothes and food 😁
