AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines Are Waiving Travel Change Fees For GE14

Looks like Ramadan isn't the only thing that Malaysians will look forward to in May, because the Election Commission has just recently announced the official polling date for GE14 which is on May 9! ?

But wait, what if you've already pre-planned a trip that week? ? Well, don't panic just yet because we have some good news!

AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines have announced that they are waiving flight change fees to allow Malaysians to change flights without paying its normal surcharges for the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14)! ?

According to a statement, the offer from AirAsia only applies to Malaysian citizens and must be done within 10 days of April 10 (that's today!). Passengers can choose from these two options:

  • Move flight: Passengers can perform one date change for all bookings with no extra charge by up to 30 days from the original travel date. This option is subject to seat availability and any fare or tax differences.
  • Credit account: Passengers can opt to have the fare value credited to their AirAsia BIG Loyalty account for future travel with AirAsia, to be redeemed within 90 calendar days from the date of credit issue.

If you are planning to change your travel date, you may click here and reach out to the team in charge by clicking on the "Email Us" tab, select "Enquiry/Request" and proceed to "Booking" and you will see "GE 14".

Meanwhile for Malaysia Airlines together with its sister airlines, Fireflyz and MASwings, the waiver is applicable for all types of tickets if the travel date falls between May 8 and 10, inbound or outbound. You may only change once and you have to do it within 10 days from today!

Customers can make the booking changes at respective airlines' ticket offices OR by contacting Malaysia Airlines/MASwings Call Centre at 1300 88 3000, or Firefly Call Centre at 03-7845 4543.

#HHWT Tip: Other airlines like Cathay Pacific and Malindo Airways are also offering to waive change fees for travellers, so if you think your flight might be affected, it's best to check with them now.
