Tips on Choosing Where to Stay in Jeju

  • If you are in Jeju for a very short visit of a night or two, it is wise to stay in Jeju City. Playing host to the Jeju International Airport, Jeju City will be your main entry and exit point from the island. Since you are pressed for time, staying in the city is more convenient for logistic reasons. Rest assured there is much to explore even in the mini metropolitan area itself!

  • If you are staying for more than three nights, you can break up your stay. Stay for a night or two in Jeju City before moving south to Seogwipo. It is Jeju’s second largest city and home to some of the island’s most beautiful natural landscapes. Breaking up your stay is the foolproof way to get the best of both cities as you have the luxury of time to do so. It also saves you from the hassle of driving back and forth on long distances when exploring the island.

  • For total relaxation, you can choose to stay at the Jungmun Tourist Complex. Located on the seashore of the Jungmun area in Seogwipo, the area offers the finest hotel stays for the utmost comfort of its visitors. Relax by the beach or pamper yourself at the spa in the resort as you take it slow. Luxury comes with a hefty price tag though, so only select this option if you are feeling generous (and most importantly if your wallet permits you to without breaking the bank)!

  • For the adventurous souls, we hear you – you’d like to conquer Hallasan in Jeju! The highest mountain in South Korea is strategically located in the middle of Jeju, with several starting points spread across the island. Depending on your preferred trail, we’d suggest you stay near the trail head. While there is a guide to hiking times on each trail, it is easy to underestimate the amount of time needed to conquer the mountain due to unpredictable weather and of course, your stamina.

  • With the many type of accommodation options available in Jeju, you are bound to find one that fits your budget. It also depends on your style of travel. For budget accommodation, your best option will be guesthouses. Hotels and resorts best suit travelers who prefer to splurge for comfort. If you are traveling with your family or in a big group, consider staying in pension lodgings. They are usually equipped with spacious rooms with private bathrooms and kitchen facilities, perfect for a great get-together!

Salam HHWT team, my sister & I are planning to go to Jeju this coming June, but I just checkd the weather forecast that it will be rain most of the day during our visit ( really hope that it will be sunny day instead). Any suggestion on how to optimise our stay there –just in case the weather is not as we expected? And which one is more convenient to use public transport/ rent a small car? if rent a car, will it be challenging during rainy day? Especially on steep roads. Thanks in advance :)

Hi Siti! Thank you for reaching out to us. 😊It would definitely be more convenient to rent a car as compared to taking public transport. Driving shouldn't be a problem even on rainy days as long as you make sure that you're within the speed limit. The rain in Jeju is usually not as heavy as the ones in Singapore or Malaysia. Perhaps you could consider going to these places to hide from the train - Dongmun market, Brick campus, Jeju trick-eye museum, teddy bear museum or make soap at Innisfree house. Hope it helps!😊
