Let’s face it – Singapore is known as one of the most expensive cities in the world. Head down to the bustling Orchard Road and you know that shopping here may not be friendly to our wallets. Surely places for the budget-conscious fashionistas exist, but only if you know where to look. So we did the research for you! We’ve rounded up some of our favourite spots here so you don’t have to worry about burning a hole in your wallet!

1. Bugis Street

Just a stone’s throw away from Bugis train station lies a bargain shopper’s paradise. With more than 600 shops, it is the best and most exciting place to do some street shopping in Singapore. With a myriad of clothes, food, drinks and colourful souvenirs, one can easily get lost here in the labyrinth-like alleys!

The first floor is non-airconditioned, but we suggest heading up to the air-conditioned upper floors for an escape from the heat and more quirky items that won’t cause a dent in your wallet! Pick from trendy and timeless pieces that will fit perfectly in your wardrobe and shoe rack. There is even a Korean-themed zone!

#HHWT Tip: Try to take your time browsing through the stores, sometimes you may find the same item that is being sold cheaper a few shops down the street!

2. Lucky Plaza

As the name suggests, you may get lucky finding the perfect top or shoes for you! Sure, it may get a tad crowded on weekends, but there are a plethora of jewellery stores, watches, apparels and accessory stores in the building. There are occasional fleas held here as well!

If you are already somewhere in Orchard – Singapore’s most luxurious street – drop by Lucky Plaza to feast your eyes on some non-high-end products to give your wallet a break. Having said that, there are so many gorgeous clothes and fashion accessories to uncover here. The items are on the cheap and affordable end, and it’s no harm adding a pretty piece or two to your wardrobe. You may even try your luck with some bargaining skills with the sellers there! Other than clothes, there are also plenty of Singapore souvenirs and unique snacks to bring home so do spend some time visiting Lucky Plaza before your flight back home.

3. IMM Outlet Stores

Ever heard of a place where there are sales 365 days a year? And who says luxurious buys have to be so expensive all the time? If you are looking for branded items, at great bargains, IMM is the place to visit next! This factory outlet mall is undoubtedly a must-visit. There are some local and international labels available here such as Nike, Timberland, Outlet by Club 21, COACH, Furla, and Kate Spade. It also houses outlet shops which sell luggage, electronics, shoes, household items and winter clothes!

The mall is also complemented by a hypermarket and of course, restaurants when you get hungry while shopping. Outlet by Club 21 even houses big labels such as DKNY, and Marc by Marc Jacobs. They carry a good collection of off-season products at exceptional prices – from 50% to 80% off! Although Jurong East may seem out of the way, it is worth the trip for sure. Why would you buy your favourite branded items at their full price in Orchard, when you can get them at a fraction of a price here? 😉

4. Far East Plaza

When it comes to street fashion, Far East Plaza hits the spot. Rows and rows of shops on 6 floors, filled with accessories, shoes, clothes, salons, beauty parlours and everything that a girl can ask for! You can find unique gems from Korean, China and Thailand imports. Wander around the small shops and prepare your eyes peeled for the best trends. And being situated right smack in Orchard, this place is incredible. Shop till you drop!

Far East Plaza is also great if you are on the lookout for cheap spa day deals. Don’t be deceived by the grubby-looking exteriors of the mall. Look a bit deeper to find great deals and trendy loots! If you are travelling in Singapore, here are some affordable hotels during your stay!

5. Queensway Shopping Centre

Calling all fitness junkies! The place for all your sporting needs would definitely be at Queensway Shopping Centre! Expect rows of shops with sporting goods and gym material from past collections, at big discounts.

Do not be discouraged with the façade of this unique hexagonal-shaped mall. While it was built in 1976, it is still frequented for those who shop for the range of skater wear, sportswear, hiking equipment, soccer apparel and shoes. While there are many mega malls flooding this country, this shopping mall could just provide that unique experience for shoppers weary of the city life.

6. Flea Markets

Budget shoppers and bargain hunters will love all sorts of flea markets here! Flea markets are the place to find a myriad of fashionable and trendy clothing, footwear and accessories as well as nifty artisanal handcrafted items – with the perfect mix of vintage and retro apparels. Pieces here may range from brand new or pre-loved (second hand). Honestly speaking, flea markets may not be everyone’s cup of tea, with the sheer number of shoppers and second-hand items. If you brave through the crowd of people and clothes, there are plenty of gems just waiting to be discovered by you! Put your bargaining skills to good use here too, you can grab some items for less than $10!

If you are wondering, there are several fleas all over Singapore throughout the year. and you can follow accounts such as @fleawhere to find out where they’ll be. The Luggage Market holds flea markets every weekend, where vendors sell their new and pre-loved clothes and accessories. For fleas with a local flavour, The Local People carefully curates art markets every other month. There is even a Singapore Really Really Free Market (SRRFM) that may pique your interest. (Fun fact: the first ever SRRFM was a decade ago, in January 2009!)

7. City Plaza

This unique place is a haven for blogshop lovers – where the items are sold at half the price. This wholesale mall actually houses the stores that supply the stocks to some of the online boutique shops! As it is wholesale, you could team up with some of your pals to get more pieces and bigger discounts.

If you are a big bargain hunter at heart, you will also be pleased to know that there are timeless second-hand apparels and shoes. Yes, this means you may even find labels such as Adidas or Zara in the pile of clothes!

8. Anchorpoint

Not keen to pay a full price for designer treads? No problem, you may just score a deal at Anchorpoint. This lesser known factory outlet mall will give you a great shopping experience as it’s a little closer to the city centre. As this is a hidden gem, there will be less crowds, and this only means a more comfortable and pleasurable budget shopping experience!

This two-storey shopping mall houses the popular international brands including Billabong, Charles and Keith, and Cotton On where off-season items are sold at huge bargains. Prices are slashed throughout the year too so you will definitely get a good deal. From apparels, home decorating items, electronics, books and gifts, there’s just so much for you to choose from!

9. Changi City Point

Changi City Point is your go-to-stop to fulfil all your sportswear needs. For travellers, this will be your last pit-stop before you head to the airport to catch your flight – it’s just one MRT stop away from Changi Airport!

Outlets such as New Balance, Puma Outlet and UNIQLO are hard to miss to buy quality sports products and daily wear. While the products may not be of the latest release, you will be able to obtain quality items at a steal! There are also value shops including the popular Daiso and Valu-dollar shops for fast consumer goods and necessities under one roof. Branded products at exceptional prices? Check. Good food? Check. On top of that, there’s also a supermarket and a cinema. But what makes this place different is the regular free workout sessions organised by Health Promotion Board on Wednesdays and Sundays!
